Condensate is a liquid hydrocarbon produced along with natural gas from underground reservoirs. When natural gas is extracted, it often contains a mixture of methane (the main component of natural gas) along with heavier hydrocarbons such as ethane, propane, butane, and pentane. These heavier hydrocarbons are gaseous underground due to the high pressure and temperature, but when the gas is brought to the surface and the pressure is reduced, they condense and turn into a liquid. Natural gas condensates are usually made up of a mixture of these heavier hydrocarbons and vary in composition depending on the specific reservoir from which they are produced. They are often clear or slightly yellowish in color and have a lower density compared to crude oil.
