Heavy crude oil is a crude oil that is highly concentrated and does not flow easily in an oil well. This type of oil is called "heavy" because its density and relative density are higher than those of light crude oil. In strict definition, any liquid crude oil with an API gravity lower than 20° is called "heavy crude oil". This type of oil has a higher viscosity than light crude oil.
